Cairo – “Algeria has outlined an ambitious strategy in the energy sector, aiming to dominate primary energy production, particularly from natural gas, while ensuring long-term sustainable supplies and limiting the impact on ecosystems. Algeria aims to address environmental challenges while maintaining long-term energy security through a mix of traditional and renewable energy production and development. Algeria’s renewable energy strategy aims to reach 30 per cent renewable energy in the national energy mix by 2035, targeting a production capacity of 15,000 megawatts, of which 3,200 are already under construction, with the intention of reaching 4,000.” Yassaa Noureddine, Commissioner for renewable energy and energy efficiency in Algeria, said this during CSEW, the Cairo Sustainable Energy Week underway in Cairo, Egypt’s capital.

“In addition, Algeria has developed an industrial fabric, reaching an annual solar panel production capacity of 470 megawatts by 2023, and has adopted a national strategy to develop the hydrogen sector as part of a comprehensive vision to establish a resilient and sustainable energy system, ensuring long-term energy security,” continues the Commissioner for Renewables for the Algerian government.
