Brussels – “On the proposed Packaging Regulation, the European Parliament made common sense prevail; it is above all a benefit from an economic point of view for our supply chain, for the consumer who wastes less, but above all the environment, given that the shift from recycling to reuse would have resulted in a 180 percent increase in CO2 emissions and 240 percent increase in water consumption,” said Luigi Scordamaglia, CEO of Filiera Italia and director of markets, European policies and internationalization of Coldiretti, on the sidelines of the 10th edition of ‘How Can We Govern Europe?’, organized by Withub with the editorial direction of Eunews and Gea, underway in Brussels at the residence of the Italian ambassador to Belgium. Scordamaglia considers, “quite irresponsible the position of the Spanish presidency, which in order to bring home results, in an absolutely empty presidency, wants to force its hand today by ignoring the popular will that the European Parliament has expressed.”

Scordamaglia also expressed his position on synthetic foods, explaining that “the Italian government has notified Brussels of the law against synthetic products, synthetic meat, that Parliament, regions, municipalities across the board and more importantly, that alll Italian citizens wanted.” In fact, “it has perhaps not been said enough that what Italy has adopted with ban is a moratorium waiting for the European Union to take note of two risks.” The first is “the health risk of what FAO and WHO have highlighted, the 53 potential risks for which we need to change the approval procedure for these products,” the other is “the risk of cutting the umbilical cord that ties land to food production and farmers and concentrated in laboratories.”
