Brussels – A total of €199.7 billion, to which an additional €72 billion will be added from the NextGenerationEU Pandemic Recovery Mechanism. The European Commission put the 2025 budget proposal on the table, referred for the approval required by the end of the year. Substantial portions of the common budget for next year are earmarked for agriculture and cohesion policies (€53.8 billion and €49.2 billion, respectively). There are also guarantees for €4.3 billion to support Ukraine, €13.5 billion for research and innovation, and €16.3 billion for international cooperation programs.

Budget Commissioner Johannes Hahn has no doubts about the proposal’s validity: “The EU budget continues to provide Europe with the means to address current and future challenges, particularly by supporting green and digital transitions and increasing the Union’s overall resilience.”
