Two days earlier the leader of the Republican Party <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Sandulovic_N\/status\/1742161632682291393?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">had announced<\/a> on social media of having<strong> paid his respects at the grave of Adem Jashari, one of the founders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (U\u00e7k)<\/strong> killed by the regime of <strong>Slobodan Milo\u0161evi\u0107<\/strong> in 1998 along with 57 members of his family, including women and children. Sandulovi\u0107 asked the family for forgiveness, laid a wreath, and apologized on behalf of the country for war crimes committed in the recent past by the Serbian state.<\/p>\n<p>The following day the family reported that <strong>members of the Serbian Security Information Agency (Bia) seized Sandulovi\u0107 and subjected him to severe physical attacks<\/strong> before taking him to the military hospital in Belgrade. On January 4, he was seized again and detained at the Belgrade Central Prison <strong>without access to independent medical care<\/strong>: the previous day doctors had found that he had fractured a rib and was reportedly paralyzed on one side of his body. Among the people responsible for Sandulovi\u0107&#8217;s torture would also be <strong>Milan Radoi\u010di\u0107<\/strong>, deputy head of Lista Srpska (the main party representing the Serb minority in Kosovo and closely controlled by President Vu\u010di\u0107) who admitted to organizing the armed attack in northern Kosovo in late September last year. The Serbian opposition politician&#8217;s lawyer, <strong>\u010cedomir Stojkovi\u0107<\/strong>, disputed the former intelligence chief&#8217;s words and pointed the finger at the president of the republic: &#8220;It is a concerted statement because Vulin&#8217;s political career in Serbia ended in agreement with Vu\u010di\u0107 and <strong>now he can falsely take responsibility for everything that causes international damage to the regime<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3 id='tensions-in-serbia-after-early-elections'  id=\"boomdevs_1\">Tensions in Serbia after early elections<\/h3>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0px;\">Despite high expectations on the eve of the elections from the &#8220;Serbia Against Violence&#8221; coalition,<strong> the Serbian Progressive Party won again in early elections with 46.67 percent of the vote<\/strong>, trailing by 23 points the very united opposition that came in second place. In the face of fraud and numerous illegal actions at the ballot box, thousands of people took to the streets responding to the call of the parties and movements that had translated into political (pro-European) demands the street protests against the climate that led to the <a href=\"https:\/\/staging.eunews.it\/2023\/05\/03\/ue-serbia-sparatoria-scuola-belgrado\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">May shooting<\/a>.
