It is no small opening considering that the European Law and Justice (ELJ) delegation, of which Morawiecki is the leader, is by far the largest within the ECR group.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am not sure whether changes can occur before\u00a0 European elections. But <strong>after elections, I personally am open to the idea of Fidesz joining our group<\/strong>,&#8221; Morawiecki said during a press conference at the Euro Chamber. During the EU Parliament plenary on <a href=\"https:\/\/staging.eunews.it\/en\/2024\/01\/15\/hungary-gets-last-tranche-of-repowereu-pre-financing-plenary-debate-in-eu-parliament\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">January 15<\/a>, the spokesman of the ECR group, <strong>Michael Strauss<\/strong>, opened the door to Orb\u00e1n&#8217;s party: &#8220;<strong>Anybody who shares our values can join<\/strong>,&#8221; after which entry &#8220;is a decision of the whole group once an membership application\u00a0is made, but at the moment it has not come.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A decision in which Polish conservatives will have a significant specific weight. In the ECR ranks, the PiS can count on group co-chair Ryszard Legutko and <strong>26 MEPs out of the total 67<\/strong>. More than twice\u00a0the second national delegation, Fratelli d&#8217;Italia, which sent 10 MPs to Brussels.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/staging.eunews.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Schermata-2023-07-17-alle-16.53.56.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-204979 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/staging.eunews.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Schermata-2023-07-17-alle-16.53.56.png\" alt=\"Possibili Alleanze Elezioni Ue\" width=\"460\" height=\"343\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The June 9 European elections will reveal the actual weight of the parties. But should the <strong>12 MEPs of Fidesz<\/strong> &#8211; who have no home in Brussels after being expelled from the European People&#8217;s Party in 2021 &#8211; remain in office, they may become a destabilizing factor for the future balance of the European Parliament. Should they join the Conservatives, the consequences would be at least twofold: A strengthening of the current <a href=\"https:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\/news\/en\/headlines\/eu-affairs\/20190612STO54311\/parliament-s-seven-political-groups\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fifth group<\/a> of the European Parliament (after the Populars, Socialists and Democrats,\u00a0Liberals, and Greens), which is already looking forward to the <strong>probable feat of Fratelli d&#8217;Italia<\/strong>, and a simultaneous move away from the Populars and the much-feared alliance between the groups of the European Right (EPP, ECR and ID) to overthrow the so-called &#8220;Ursula majority&#8221; (S&amp;D, EPP and Liberals).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Hungarian Fidesz party now has 12 MEPs, included in the Non-members, after being expelled from the EPP in 2021.
