In fact, I would encourage them [the Russians ndr] to do whatever the hell they want.<\/strong>\u201d\u00a0The prospect is disturbing considering the possible re-election of\u00a0<em>The Donald<\/em>\u00a0to the White House and Republican&#8217;s skepticism in Congress in providing further military and financial support to Kyiv and risks of the conflict expanding to Europe. This is why the comments outraged not only Stoltenberg but also\u00a0leaders EU institutions and EU member states, just days before the <strong>NATO Defense Ministers&#8217; Summit scheduled for Thursday (Feb. 15) and the Munich Security Conference between Friday and Sunday (Feb. 16-18), when these issues will be discussed<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0px;\">&#8220;<span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">The Transatlantic Alliance has underpinned the security and the prosperity of Americans, Canadians, and Europeans for 75 years. <\/span>\u00a0<strong><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">Reckless statements on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/NATO?src=hashtag_click\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">#NATO<\/a>\u2019s security and Art 5 solidarity serve only Putin\u2019s interest. <\/span><\/strong>\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">They do not bring more security or peace to the world,<\/span>&#8221; European Council President <strong>Charles Michel<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/CharlesMichel\/status\/1756663534279106584?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a0said on X<\/a>. &#8220;On the contrary, they reemphasize the need for the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/EU?src=hashtag_click\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">#EU<\/a> to urgently further develop its strategic autonomy and invest in its defense. And to keep our Alliance strong,&#8221; he added. Belgian Prime Minister and current president of the EU Council, <strong>Alexander De Croo<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lecho.be\/economie-politique\/europe\/general\/otan-michel-de-croo-et-dedonder-denoncent-les-propos-de-donald-trump\/10525829\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reiterated<\/a> that &#8220;our greatest asset in the face of Putin is our unity, and the last thing we should do is to compromise it.&#8221; Dry was the comment of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, <strong>Josep Borrell,\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0who talked about &#8220;a silly idea that comes during this electoral campaign in the United States.&#8221; <strong>NATO cannot be an alliance \u201c<em>\u00e0 la carte<\/em>\u201d. It exists, or it does not exist,\u00a0<\/strong>&#8221; Borrell added. Poland&#8217;s Defense Minister, <strong>W\u0142adys\u0142aw Kosiniak-Kamysz<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/KosiniakKamysz\/status\/1756640757119607073?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">warned<\/a> that &#8220;no election campaign is an excuse to play games with the security of the Alliance,&#8221; while Germany&#8217;s Foreign Ministry <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/GermanyDiplo\/status\/1756636035029627136?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">published<\/a> on X the motto &#8220;one for all and all for one,&#8221; recalling that &#8220;NATO keeps more than 950 million people safe &#8211; from Anchorage to Erzurum.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<strong><span style=\"font-size: 21.12px;\">\u00a0I<\/span> expect that regardless of who wins the presidential election, the U.S. will remain a strong and committed NATO ally,<span style=\"font-size: 21.12px;\">&#8220;<\/span><\/strong> NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg summed up: &#8220;<span style=\"font-size: 21.12px;\">\u00a0<\/span>Any attack on NATO will be met with a united and forceful response.&#8221; Two issues are at the heart of the matter: national defense investments and NATO&#8217;s Article 5.
