{"id":364642,"date":"2024-05-28T15:37:16","date_gmt":"2024-05-28T13:37:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/2024\/05\/28\/ue-rinnova-di-un-anno-sanzioni-a-siria\/"},"modified":"2024-05-28T16:34:49","modified_gmt":"2024-05-28T14:34:49","slug":"eu-council-renews-sanctions-against-syria-for-another-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.eunews.it\/en\/2024\/05\/28\/eu-council-renews-sanctions-against-syria-for-another-year\/","title":{"rendered":"EU Council renews sanctions against Syria for another year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brussels &#8211; Another year of sanctions against the Syrian government of Bashar al-Assad and his supporters: &#8220;In view of the gravity of the deteriorating situation in Syria<span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">,&#8221; the\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>EU Council has decided to <strong>renew and extend until June 1, 2025,<\/strong> the <a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/LexUriServ\/LexUriServ.do?uri=OJ:L:2011:121:0001:0010:EN:PDF\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">restrictive measures first introduced in May 2011<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">The 27 Member states\u00a0say they are &#8220;deeply concerned&#8221; about the lack of progress. &#8220;After more than 13 years, the conflict remains a source of suffering and instability for the Syrian people and the region,&#8221; according to a statement from\u00a0the EU Council.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">In this context, the Council finds that &#8220;the Syrian regime continues to pursue a policy of repression and violations of human rights. It is therefore <strong>appropriate and necessary to maintain the restrictive measures in place.&#8221;<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Restrictive measures in effect until June 1, 2025.
