Brussels – German exports are in\u00a0free fall, with expectations falling to minus 6.3 points\u00a0in\u00a0September<\/strong>, compared with minus 5.2 in the previous month, according to the ifo Institute’s<\/strong>\u00a0Export Expectation<\/a>\u00a0survey, which\u00a0monitors and assesses the sector’s current and future developments.<\/p>\n

“The export industry is going through a weak phase<\/strong>,” said Klaus Wohlrabe<\/strong>, head of surveys at the ifo\u00a0Institute. The metal and automotive industries, in particular, expect significant losses.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Industry is complaining about a lack of orders from abroad,” Wohlrable added.\u00a0In fact, the indicator has steadily decreased<\/strong> since\u00a0June 2024<\/a>. The only sectors showing growth are\u00a0related to food and beverages, while the chemical industry\u00a0is stable. The survey results are\u00a0alarming, as exports have always been the flagship of the German economy<\/strong>, especially for manufacturing industries.<\/p>\n

The German economy as a whole is coming to a stop<\/a>. The crisis is first and foremost a structural but<\/strong>\u00a0also cyclical, according to ifo<\/a>. Germany is in trouble. Too many changes are underway in a system struggling to find a balanced role. The economic research institute pointed in parallel to the deterioration of the “German business climate,” down 1.2 points from August<\/strong> and down for the fourth consecutive month. “The companies were particularly less satisfied with the current business situation. The German economy is coming under ever-increasing pressure,” ifo experts explained.<\/p>\n
